We encourage students and others interested in more hands-on training to participate in apprenticeships and similar mentoring programs. One program we especially recommend is available from the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Patagonia, Arizona, USA. Apprenticeships are offered in live-food preparation (raw-food, vegan diet) as well as in spiritual gardening.
See: www.treeoflife.nu for details, costs and applications to these programs.
N. B. At the time of this writing, Jan. 2009, Tree of Life has temporarily suspended its apprentice programs in both the Cafe and Garden. Check back for updates.
At the Living Earth Training Center and the White Mountain Nature Farm where we have our training and research center, we are considering having some apprentices for the 2008 season, running from April 15 to Sept. 15, 2008. We prefer candidates who are either local, or self-sufficient enough to provide their own food and housing. We may be able to provide modest accomodations/camping on site for the right candidates. Short-term or long-term stays will be considered. We will exchange training and a share of the food produced for labor. Interested candidates should provide a letter stating background and interest, and expected dates of availability. Send inquirys to us via the Contact Us information provided on this web site.
We also mentor students enrolled in college degree programs at various universities and community colleges. John Phillips, B. S. Biology and M. S. Agriculture, President of the Living Earth Training Center, Inc. has Adjunct Faculty status at Northland Pioneer College. During the summer of 2007, Joshua Becker, a student at Prescott College, completed a 6 credit independent study on Gardening for Peace with John Phillips while in residence at the Living Earth Training Center, Inc. Interested students who would like to participate in similar programs in 2008 should contact us with a letter of interest as soon as possible.
A Masters program in Live Food Nutrition is available from Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. See: http://www.treeoflife.nu for details. John Phillips teaches a full-day class on Gardening for Peace for this Masters program.
